File Transfers STALL!

Ok, I mounted my ipod into linux and am backing up some files, large files. After about a hundred megs or so, the speed of the transfer dips to less than a meg/sec and then stalls. It restarts at a wild fast speed, but quickly drop and stalls again. The average time isn't that long, but it would be much faster if the speed stayed constant. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have the same thing with USB hard drive storage. I copied 80 GB of files and yes it did stall several times every 5 to 10 minutes depending on the kernel parameters. It took a few days to copy on a USB 1.1 port.

You can try to adjust the kernel settings using the sysctl utility.
