I have Red Hat Linux 9.0 installed on a Dell GXa computer, with 128
RAM, 4.3 gig HDD, NetGear NIC card. The Linux box is connected to a
Windows network, where I have Windows Advanced Server configured for
DHCP. I subscribe to a cable modem service and have a 4-port SMB
router. The DHCP server is configured to hand out a range of
192.168.xxx.xxx address and does so with no problem to two other
Windows 2000 Professional machines on the network.

There are more than enough addresses to hand out to the machines on
the network. I have no problem getting the Windows machines to work
fine on the internal network and also get out to the Internet.

The Linux box, however, is another matter. While the Linux box does
get an IP address assigned to it, I cannot get out to the Internet on
it. The subnet mask is correct and I also included the router's
Gateway IP address. However, if I give the Linux box a static IP
address, there is no problem getting out to the Internet.

I'm not quite sure what I'm missing. I've configured the Linux box
with most of the same network information as the Windows machines,
expect for the DHCP-assigned IP address. I can't tell, under DHCP, is
the Gateway is not working or maybe there is a problem with DNS.

Any pointers in the right direction to help solve this problem?

Is there only one dhcp server in the network. I am not sure what a Windows Advanced Server is. is it a dhcp server? Is the router also configured as a dhcp server? You only want one if they are all on the same subnet.
If you get a valid ip on the linux machine and still cannot get to the internet (if what you mean is you cannot resolve urls), it could be a dns problem. Try to look at /etc/resolv.conf and see if it has the correct nameserver listed. I have a router connected to a cable modem and have three computers connected to this router. I have the router configured as dhcp server. In my /etc/resolv.conf I have nameserver pointing to 192.168.1.1 which is my router's IP address. I can connect via dhcp or via static address. If I use a static address, I need to setup a default route to the router. Take a look at /sbin/route ouput, they should be identical for both dhcp and static ip mode.
