Knoppix won't use my network card
I'm booting Knoppix occasionally (because I can :P) and other times I use FC3 or Gentoo.
Gentoo doesn't recognise my network card, but I know why - didn't compile support into the kernel. I'm all over that.
FC3 recognises my card and I can browse the Internet just fine.
For some reason, Knoppix doesn't.
"lspci" lists the card (NvidiaMCPNetworking......) so I assume it knows about it.
"ifconfig" only lists my "lo" interface - the loopback.
When I try to bring up eth0 ("ifconfig eth0 up" - I have a feeling that's the wrong command) it says ERROR.... eth0: unrecognised device.
This is really odd. Am I just using the wrong name for my NIC? It is eth0 under FC3, and it is the only network card on the system.
BTW, the NIC connects to my router which issues addresses via DHCP - right now, this system is 10.1.1.3.
TIA
