ipop3d cant connect

Hello All,

I have a rh9 box running sendmail and ipop3d for popping mail. Mail flow fine. I can email myself from my linux box to anywhere and reply just fine. I can alos originate email outside of my network and it gets to the box just fine.

I want to POP my mail. ipop3 is running via xinetd. An external nmap shows:

20/tcp closed ftp-data
21/tcp open ftp
25/tcp open smtp
80/tcp open http
81/tcp open hosts2-ns
110/tcp open pop-3
232/tcp open unknown
3389/tcp open ms-term-serv

As you can see th port is opened. If I telnet to my mail server from outside my lan I get a blank screen. If I shut off pop3 and restart xinetd I get a connection refused when telneting to it. This tells me the pop3 server is getting the request but no banner is displayed.

When I try to pop my mail with Outlook 2000 I get:

Task 'www.xxxxxxxxxxx.com - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Anyone have any ideas at all? The front of my head is getting flat from being beat against the wall.

Thanks All

-=mwm
