Maybe you have a proxy set.. can you run 'echo $http_proxy' ? .. or possibly 'cat /etc/wgetrc' ?

echo $http_proxy returns a blank line

Only lines in wgetrc that are not commented out are "passive_ftp = on" and "waitretry = 10"

OMG fixed.

adding nameserver 4.2.2.3 to /etc/resolv.conf worked.

It happened again

resolve.conf was overwritten and now it's blank. How do you get it to not overwrite it self, or at least populate it with something that's gonna help
