Ok, I use mediaone cable services. Umm when i start up linux, it brings the eth0 interfaces but it dosnet bring it up it goes for like 10 mins and then it says failed and starts linux. What do i do?
jsut to let you know, i was confused at first, you keep creating a new thread for each time your replying, its easier when you post a reply instead of creating a new thread.
anyways, sounds to me you need to reconfigure your ethernet card. might want to check out the howto's at http://www.linuxdoc.org for the ethernet howto's.
what kind of nic do you have? have you checked for new drivers or anything?
what do you get for the outcome if you type ifconfig eth0 ?
this should give you a indication if its working somewhat or not. if it does not show up, then most likely you need to get new drivers for you card, compile them and then get your card working from there. best place to start are the howto's for detailed steps in doing that once you find any drivers for your card.
As trickykid suggests, the problem isn't with your cable service; your network card isn't set up correctly. You might, as he said, have to compile a module. First, you need to identify the exact model number of your card; newer Realtek cards use the rtl8139 module, but some older cards use the NE2000 driver. Should you need to compile, drivers and installation instructions can be found at http://www.scyld.com/network.
Before you jump into compiling a new module, I'd suggest checking out my response to a very similar problem in this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=3329. I've outlined most of the basic setup there.
