I have a spare NIC sitting here, you think it might help if I change the other one out for this one? I've never installed any hardware in a linux machine after the initial installation...do I have to uninstall the old one? Will it automatically find drivers for this card I will be putting in?

Thanks, I'll take a look at those logs.

Ok, the one that was in there already is a

Kingston KNE111tX
On the chipset it looks like:
Kingston
KT98200
1111090
J0021
RA448002
37FDX

On the other one I could put in there is called

Network Everywhere - Fast Ethernet 10/100 Network Card
Model Number: NC100
Version 2.1

However on the driver disk, it says it's made by Linksys.

The problem went away simply by installing a different NIC. Thanks to everyone for their help.
