Internet connection problem

I'm having problems connecting to the internet with my SuSE 9 Pro ....I will have to boot then reboot several times before I get an IP address from my DHCP server. I have checked with my ISP and all of their recommended settings have been verified...I have also increased the server, socket and proxy settings to over a minute (95 secs)...I've disable my firewall and antivirus program and still the problem persist.

Can someone tell me what else to try....and what file controls my internet connection (/etc/hosts...?)
Please advise and thanks....

have u checked out the files in /etc/sysconfig eg network and networking?
They may hold some clues as to what u can do and maybe also /etc/resolv.conf
