I am a Linux Newbie with remedial knowledge of configuring Linux and using Terminal. Here is what I've done to obtain a dsl connection so far, to no avail:
1. In Network Configuration under the Devices tab, I have an active profile with eth0 listed under Device. When I double-click this, the Ethernet Device box opens and under the General tab, I have obtain IP address with DHCP enabled and Automatically obtain DNS information from provider checked. Under the Route tab, there are no entires, and under the Hardware Device tab, it shows my ethernet card, with bind to Mac Address checked.
2. Under the Hardware tab, I see my ethernet card with an OK status.
3. Under the IPsec, DNS, and Hosts tabs, there are no entires.
I can ping my Linux box from Windows computers attached to the same router and I can ping the Windows boxes from the Linus box.
I have turned off the firewall on the Linux box.
Am I missing something in order to get a dsl connection?
Thanks

When I run ifconfig in the root using terminal, I get a "bad command" error.
I cannot ping google.com.
I can ping its IP 216.239.57.99
I have a Netgear router (wg614 v6) connected to a dsl modem. I have three Windows machines connected on the same network router, with no problems surfing the web on them. My ethernet card is an Intel 82562e2 integrated mobo.
If you don't know the dns ips you can start one of the window$ boxes, connect to the internet, open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all. Then copy the primary and secondary dns server addresses into the resolv.conf file.
