I am very new to Linux. I am using Fedora 10.
I am using MTNL broadband through a modem (ADLS) model no. MT882.
My IP is 192.168.1.5 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway is192.168.1.1 DNS is 59.179.243.70 and 203.94.243.70 .These all I am using in Vista. But I don't know how to configure internet setting in Fedora.

Thanks and Regards

Is this an ethernet or usb modem?
Your IP looks like a local private IP - which suggests you use an ethernet switch/router/modem combo.

its seems that you have a DHCP from the modem right?
how about using a DHCP for your fedora NIC setting for a start

assuming eth0 as your NIC, login into terminal as root - gnome-terminal if you are using gnome desktop - and type dhclient eth0 - i think that would be it

manually?
/sbin/ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.5/24 up
echo 'nameserver 59.179.243.70' > /etc/resolv.conf
echo 'nameserver 203.94.243.70' >> /etc/resolv.conf
/sbin/route del default
/sbin/route add default gw 192.168.1.1
ping somewhere.domain

HTH.

OK - this is good news - it means you only need to get ethernet and your modem talking.

Is the modem part of a router unit?

We need to see the line from

lspci

which talks about your ethernet nic

We need to see the output of

ifconfig

But - it's probably already set up.
In one of your panels, there is a network applet - right-click on it to see the possible networks. It should have an entry for a wired connection.

If you see one, and it is active, then open firefox and use it to talk to your modem.

If not - you'll need to set the nic up.
You can do this from the network control, or you can follow rossonieri#1's suggestion from post #3.

The other information is JIC.
