Unhappy Problem Setting Telewest Broadband On Redhat 9.0

hi all. please guys can you help me out, im quite a newbie in linux and am unable to setup my broadband connection onto my linux box. i have a linux redhat 9.0 installed and my modem is a webstar 100. the problem is that linux detects the modem as USB Cable Modem. when i tried to setup a new internet connection, and when i try to activate it, it fails but gives me my actual IP address. please can anyone help me out. cheers!

my broadband connection is a telewest UK 2mbit connection. cheers
