intel 82545EM Gigabit onboard nic trouble

Yo,

I have Debian 3.0r1 with kernel 2.4.18, I downloaded the old and the newest driver from the intel site for my nic, and I can't do a "make install"

So , i unpack the driver in /usr/src, I go in the directory src that's located in the unpacked directory of that driver, did a "make install" and i get following error :
makefile error 89: Linux Kernel source not found**

Same with the new and old driver, Also tried the driver from my motherboard, Tyan GC-SL 2707 G2N . It's actually the same driver, and i've got same problem...

Any help would be appreciated !

thx

bennoethos,

Install the proper kernel-headers ( the versions should match your running kernel, something like "kernel-headers-2.4.18-1-386". ) Run 'uname -r' to see what the version is.

Then you need to read the README file in the driver distribution. It should tell you how to specify where the current kernel headers are.

If not, open the Makefile and there probably is a variable that specifies the location.

Good Luck,
chris
