Normally downloading the drivers from the manufacturer isn't the way to do it in Linux. Most likely you will have the right driver already installed or available in Ubuntu's repositories.
Have you tried to use Ubuntu's driver installer to get wireless working (you need a wired connection for this)?

If that doesn't work, please post the output of lsusb if it is an USB-device or lspci if it is an inbuilt device. Please use code-tags for posting the output.

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 1241:1166 Belkin MI-2150 Trust Mouse
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
