Installing Dlink 650+ wireless card in mandrake 10

Hi

I am trying to install a D-link DWL650+ cardbus wireless card in mandrake 10. I had to working in 9.2, but that was through the use of houseofcraig.net with its great howto. Unfortunately there doesnt appear to be any pre-compiled version of the drivers around. I have downloaded the source for the drivers and tried to make it, but that fails. It is trying to go a grep of /lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/build/include/linux/version.h, however I only have the path /lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/build/ , do I have to create the folders?

I have upgraded the firmware and updated the modules.conf file and have done an lsmod and realised that mandrake 10 has a acx100 driver already in it, but I am assuming that it is like the one in 9.2, in that it doesnt work. when i look at /var/log/messages all I get is acx100_pci: probe of 0000:07:00.0 failed with error -5. i have also downloaded a patch that goes with the 2.6 kernel, but I aint too sure how to patch it. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

There is a driver included in Mandrake 10 and it will work. Go to the are where you configure the hardware in drakconfig. Find your card and configure the module. You will probable need to reboot, then in drake config set up the networking. I used the manual setup and configured a wireless connection, just follow the steps in the setup wizard. You will then need to edit ifcfg-eth0 and change the lines that begin with "wireless_" such as change "wireless_mode" to "MODE".

The card worked good with decent ping times but surfing the web was painfully slow, the system would say "resolving host" for 15 to 30 seconds before the page loads. However downloads were at a good speed.

You may want to try the latest driver pre7 plus fixes 4, you do not need to build it in the 2.6.3 source tree you build it like you did in the 2.4.x kernel (according to the readme) I am going to try it out tonight.

tried what u suggested, but it fails to load the modules and says

PCMCIA: socket de28c02: unable to apply power

might try and rebuild it as I have put all the relevant files in the kernel tree.

Ive got Mandrake 10 running on a Toshiba Satellite 1800-700 with 128mb RAM. Ive read and followed the Howto at http://www.houseofcraig.net/acx100_howto.php but unfortunately have had no luck. I got to the stage where you insert the card but on insertion the little LED didnt light up fully although there seemed to be a low constant glow from the LED. The card works fine in Windows 2000.

I carried on and typed ifconfig -a to list my ethernet drvice but only the 'lo' one was listed.

I then tought id try compiling my own drivers with the help of the documentation above but have yet to succeed.I got further using the supplied drivers from the above site.

Can anyone help? Please?

I'm running Mandrake 10 with a DWL650+ card, and I get the same "probe of <stuff> failed with error -5". Any ideas what this error actually means and how to fix it? I'm trying to do the firmware setup, but the documentation is probably not updated for 2.6 (modprobe.conf, right?)

Note that I also tried rebooting and setting the module parameters, but after giving the options, a few small dialogs flashed by and I was returned to the "Manual choice" radio button.

Extra note: after rebooting (again) and this time not inserting the card until after the system was up, I was able to make the interface come up (after removing the debug option). Still have to set keys, etc. Is it possible that this card will not work if inserted while booting? Or did something else change that I failed to realize after rebooting?
