Install older non wifi printer connected to archer c1900 router USB port
( Linux mint) I am a noob and I have read through a few posts on here but this and I still having problems with this.
I spent hours yesterday couldn’t get it to work.
The printer is an older Samsung ml1640 in windows I had to go to the archer site and download install the usb printer controller utility unfortunately it only has them for windows and MAc but not Linux
I am not sure if it can be done in Linux when I am in the routers menu it doesn’t show the IP address of the router but( a little off topic here) I also have a hard drive on a different usb port on the router and I can see its ip address and am connected to it. its this networking printer that is confusing me.
I have plugged the printer into the laptop and installed the drivers and it does work but when I plug it into the router and use the find network printer I get a pop up asking for user name domain( says WORKROUP) and pw I tried my Linux pw and user name it doesn’t work. if I type in the ip address or the router it doesn’t show anything

That is down in Open Printing as working perfectly with Linux. You will need the splix driver, which is available here: http://www.openprinting.org/driver/splix

While the printer may be supported and work when directly attached to the computer it does not work the same when connected to the router. Since the router's print server requires a special utility that is only available for Windows and Macs I don't think it will work using linux.
You can try to find how to connect using avahi-browse but I doubt it will find it.
avahi-browse -alr
