iball 3.5G netconnect usb universal modem with Aircel netpack prepaid not working
Hello,
I am using the iball 3.5G netconnect usb modem with Fedora and AIRCEL net pack but have been unsuccessful in connecting to the internet.
I added a new mobile connection, chose India, then AIRCEL, then Aircelgprs.Prepaid, connect automatically clicked, available to all users clicked and saved the values entering the root password. I could see that the network connection was established immediately and could see the signal bands of the connection. I had left the username and password boxes empty.
However when attempting to go online by entering a URL like yahoo.com no content are getting downloaded and the message bar on the browser just keeps reporting "looking up yahoo.com".
On disconneting the connection and reconnection again once again I can see that tht connection is establsished (signal bands showing up) but am not able to browse the pages.
I can see that there are good entries of IP addresses in the /etc/resolv.conf file but actual downloading of content yet eludes me.
Can someone let me know how I can rectify this situation?

What's always worked for me in the past is to tick the "Connect automatically" box at the top and then boot up with the modem plugged in.
You need to make certain the sim has been opened for data by the network. That can only be done from a cellphone as far as I know. It can be quite an ordeal to get the data service turned on because the call centre staff usually aren't too clued up on how data services work.
(they always try to get me to download 'settings' that have nothing to do with the problem)
From what you've described, the connection has been established, but packet transfers are being blocked by the server. This happens when you run out of data or if the data service is not turned on.

Thanks for your reply, this AirCel sim works from a cell phone correctly and I am able to connect via the phone to the internet through my laptop. But the same SIM card when I use it with the iBall 3.5G netconnect wireless USB modem ...it does not work. I think its something got to do with the USB modem or with some config settings which I probably have not done right.
I have used wvdial also ..it detects the modem but once again because I probably dont have the correct values to use in the wvdial.conf file ...it does not work. Anybody can help me with the correct wvdial.conf values for the aircel sim card? Probably if Aircel is reading this they should have someone look into this...They will probably get many Linux users onto their service if its easy to use it with an opensource OS like Fedora...
Am yet waiting for a solution. So somebody please help if possible..

When you use the sim in a cellphone, do you have to enter the pin?

No I do not have to enter any pin. It works automatically.
I think if I have the right values in the wvdial.conf file this will work as the wvdialconf command is recognizing the modem. Has someone used the Aircel or Tata Docomo sim card in the past?
Please help if possible.
