How to use smbmount.

I have finally gotten Samba to work. But now I think I need to mount the drives on win98 box so that I can use the files on linux box.
I want to use the program "GIMP" for photo proccessing but all my files right now are one the win98 box, so I need to mount the directories from the drive so that I can access them thru GIMP'S file open commmand.

Here is what I have :

Win98 box ip address is 192.168.0.2 name " iwill "
The drive I would like to mount would be named " i_iwill "
The linux box ip address is 192.168.0.3 name " pen2 "
The user on both win98 and linux is " ed"
The share does not have a pass word on the win98 box.
Can I use the ip addresses for both linux and win98. I can not seem to be able to connect via the names of the two boxes.
Now back to the orginal question. I would like to have the win98 directory mounted when the linux boots up if this possible.

I have looked at many articles on smbmount and mount but everything I tryed just did not work. I believe I want to use the mount instead of the smbnount in this case. Am I correct??

If I use mount I believe I can do this, I just can not figure out the synax's

I know I will have to enter the command in my " etc/fstab " file.
right now I have a dual boot drive I am mounted thr " etc/fstab", that is mounted using the following:

/dev/hda1 /mnt/win98 vfat users,owner,rw,umask=022 0 0

So I know the command will go there. I just don't know what to put into the command.

Thanks

I jave just tried this with the same scenerio

Box 1 = Linux box running samba (smb, nmb) nmb Must be running, in redhat 8 it runs with the smb
Box 2 = win 2000

With win98 it shold work, at least from what I have read. There is a problem wirth high traffic volume from win 98

type:

mount -t smbfs -o [username=your_username],[password=your_password] //Win98_NETBios_Name/Shared_Directory /Path_To_Directory(on linux box)

Like I said this worked great with win2k but 98 does seem to have some problems with traffic flow.

I hoppe this helps

Thanks ToeShot,

Your instruction were just what I needed. They were clear and concise.
I was able to mount the desired drive from my win98 box.
I have copied them to my list of howto for future reference.
Once again thanks.
