How to solve a temporary failure in name resolution error?

I've installed Kubuntu 18.04 on a desktop with an ethernet connection. During the installation, updates were downloaded and the internet was working fine. Once the operating system is installed, every time I try to ping any website I get the following error:

Code:
Temporary failure in name resolution
I've tried the ethernet cable on different computers and it works, so I don't know what I should do next.

If anybody could help me with this I'd truly appreciate.

well, the issue is it is having trouble completing a dns name lookup. so we know the issue now it is just why. what is your set-up? are you using dhcp, fixed-ip address seperate router? second try in the cmd

ping 8.8.8.8

that will tell you if you are getting outside your network if you get a response. if you are then try

ping google.com

see what that comes back as. give me more info on stuff like that. it could be anything at this point. also, if you have a wire tester, check the wire that way. sometimes i strand breaks and you get something stupid like that. also it could be a failed router port if you are using that. need more info...

Are you running a firewall? Show the results of
Code:
sudo iptables -L -v -n
Are you on a LAN or directly connected to a modem and the internet? If on a LAN can you ping another computer on the LAN using its ip address? using its FQDN?
