up2date error:temporary failure in name resolution

when running the command up2date ,my rhel 4 is showing the above mentioned error...i am not able to install packages as i am not able to use yum command also.
can anyone suggest wat shld i do?

You should figure out why DNS isn't working, and fix it.

(If that's too brief for you, sorry, but I can't tell you from here why your DNS isn't working)
