How to keep local profiles in Samba PDC domain

I have set up samba as PDC on a network consisting mostly of WinXP clients. I have successfully added the clients to the domain. However, a question arose.

All users have been working locally on their PCs before in workgroup environment. When each user logs to the domain, he is given a fresh new account (no previous settings, no Outlook accounts, etc). Is it possible to keep the existing local accounts options even if the user logs in to the domain?

In short it involves renaming the profile folders.

Is there a better, easier for users, way?

You can copy the user profile from workgroup(localbox) to domain & change the ownership to that user. Make sure while you do this, that user is not logged on to the domain.
