How to Configure dns for Local lan


Hi,

We have our website hosted with third party , i want to configure my local dns server , but it is conflicting with the external dns
can zny one help

You usually have to be more specific to get a useful reply.

You probably should consider a caching dns server. This way, any address not in this table will be referred to the external one.

configuring dns for local lan

Hi,

Let me make it clear , like our website and mail server is hosted with the third party webhosters and now i want to configure dns for my lan with the same domain name and i configured the dns but when i do dig it shows the dns records of the webhosters , so please help me on this issuee

If you need hosts on your LAN to be accessible from the internet as host1.yourdomain.com, host2.yourdomain.com, you'll need a fixed IP address from your ISP and either:
a) ask the webhosters to set up the appropriate records for you, since they maintain the authoritative nameservers for your domain
or
b) set up your nameserver, add the appropriate records, and ask the webhosters (or registrar if you are the domain name owner) to change the primary DNS entry for your domain to point at your nameserver

If this is only for use on your LAN, you'll need to set up a nameserver, add the appropriate records, and make sure all machines on the LAN are using it as their primary DNS.
