How do I set up broadband?


My isp company is SBC DSL but after I Intstall linux how do I setup my connection with the name servers and all my information to go online. thank you

u can try this link to see if u have got this far with ur set up yet...or in a terminal window (as root)u can use the adsl-setup command, u will need the user name etc...that ur isp should have given u. Ur connection should be pppoe. U don`t say which version of linux u r using but u will need the pppoe client installed....rpm -q pppoe to find this out. When u post a question try to give a bit more info to make it easier for people to help u :-)

thanks I plan to use suse linux 9.1 so how do I set it up with that, thanks

As I said in my previous post u will need to open a terminal window and as root
su (enter root password)
adsl-setup
this will then prompt u for information to set up your connection.
when it is complete u can use
adsl-start/stop to connect to the internet.

Wow your the man, and thank you very much. I was freaked out to thinking what would happend If i install linux and can't go online lol. I use linux at college, and I loved it.

Well I am a beginner can you please give me some details on how do I open a terminal window? thanks I almost forgot but on Windows I am using a pppoe program.

I think what will help u is learning some basic things such as opening a terminal window...check out this link and this will give u lots of step by step help including some helpful commands
