hey everyone, i recently added a linux server to our network at the office and I am attempting to configure samba so the windows nt, xp, 98 machines can have access to the shares.
I believe samba is set up because i have mounted a shared drive from my win2k server and I have tried the smbclient -M 'compname' and have successfully received those messages on my windows machines.
My problem is when I go to network neighborhood on a windows machine, I see my linux server listed under the workgroup but I can not access it when I try to browse.
It says \\linuxserver not accessible. the network path was not found.
That's the problem, your firewall, try disabling your firewall and try it, if it works then you have to tune your iptables so it allow the proper incoming traffic.
I'm also not good with firewalling, but I'm sure a lot of people here can help you. Try searching threads about samba and firewalls and there might be something usefull. If you don't find anything you can always start a new thread.
