Help with "man pppd" exit status 10

I'm trying to connect to a dial ISP. (I live in the boonees and the only other option I have is wireless phone). I have a local network which works but everytime and anything I try seems to pppd time out. I have read a few articles that say the easy way to over come this is to disable the local network before using dial up. Is there any way to make the two live together?

hello there.

are you sure this is really the problem? have you checked pppd's messages? you can have the debug logs of pppd by enabling debug option in /etc/ppp/options then reading /var/log/ppp-debug.log.

perhaps what the article means is that you disable network connections in LAN first, run dial-up then re-enable LAN.

i'm not sure but perhaps you can do that using the 'ifconfig interface up|down'.
