Question HELP! Trouble with Networking - Linux Client to Windows Server

Hi,

I am having lots of problem with networking a Linux Client to a Windows Server. Im running Mandrake 9 on the client.

For starters I cant even PING the other computer, at 192.168.0.1 (which is the windows PC) I have no idea how to use SAMBA, but I do have Gnomba and LinNeighborhood on the system.

If anyone could give me some information that would help, it would be fantastic.

Please note: before I ran two windows pcs with the same network connection and it worked fine, (so there is nothing wrong with the cable connection on the cards or anything)

The linux client does pick up the etho card installed. I have assigned IP address and everything, things just don't seem to work.

Regards,

JC.

First what IP info did you assign to the linux box.
Second is there any kind of firewall on the windows box.

Make sure the router allows for the IP address assigned to the linux box to be valid

You will have to be able to ping the computer before you even consider setting samba up.

So deal with that problem first, then set up samba.

Perhaps your Linux box is trying to use DHCP but you dont have a DHCP server. Thus you need to set the IP address manually (just like you would need in windows)
