Can someone guid me on proper dhcp settings, router settings etc? I've been using dialup for years and want to use my new cable modem with my old linux laptop. I have a working ethernet card. Just need help with getting config files correct. Thanks.

The best way is setup the router as the Cable provider requires. May have to contact them if they left no info after the install or search thier website for help on that part. Now most all store bought routers I have seen have the lan side setup to give out an IP to machines requesting a connection. On the linux machine set the network interface to dhcp to get its own IP. That is all that should be needed. It will get the IP, subnet value, gateway and usually use the routers lan IP as the DNS value. I have seen some system perfer to use the ISP real DNS values which can be gotten from the routers setup page or from the provider themselves.
