Debian(potato) install help needed

HI
1 IŽd like to ask about some debian installation issues . I've already read all the instalation tips online and tried to apply them but my video card (diamond stealth III540) is never recognized . when it gets to the video card identification during instalation it says my video card its not working or never heard of it. I must say tough that once , i've manage to "configure it" but don't remember how ( can you believe?) so i know for shure that my card is ok .
2 I also want to ask about the debian potato version , i read somewhere that you can update it to a new one called "woody"?
3 My instalation cd comes with gnome and i would like to install it , but of the very few times i manage to configure the xwindows properly i noticed it wasn't installed . I'm quite sure that i have chosen it from the menu .
4 How can i get an internet connection ?

I'm sorry about the way i aproached you . I must apologise . Probably i was vague and confusing on the questions . I'm going to be more specific in the future. I have read also about people that want to learn linux to be hackers or to hack something online on this site and they are left aside on the answering . Definetly this is not my case (even if i wanted to). I want to know about it because its not proprietary and that is very , very interesting for business in the future . I can have a very stable and modern OS at no cost are you kiding ? This is the future already . Folks don't have idea of what is going on . I'm ignorant african in this west side story , don't know shit about
computers and already manage to install 3different flavours that got hooked.

PEACE
