Having problem setting up a mixed-OS crossover LAN

The network I want to set up consists of 2 PCs: a laptop using Ubuntu 5.1 and a desktop using Windows XP Home. I want to have a common shared folder in which both OSs will be able to rwx files. I modified the smb.conf file but I'm still unable to access the shared file from Windows. Here is the dump:

Quote:
# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = MSHOME
server string = %h server (Samba, Ubuntu)
obey pam restrictions = Yes
passdb backend = tdbsam, guest
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n .
syslog = 0
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 1000
dns proxy = No
panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d
invalid users = root

[homes]
comment = Home Directories
read only = No
create mask = 0774
directory mask = 0774
browseable = yes

[Linux]
comment = Linux Share Dir
path = /home/linux
guest ok = Yes

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /tmp
create mask = 0700
printable = Yes
browseable = No

[print$]
comment = Printer Drivers
path = /var/lib/samba/printers
What changes do I have to apply to make the network functioning?

Can you ping to the linux box.
Sort it out in steps and it will be easy to sort out the issue

Connectivity between two PCs [A ping must tell this]
No firewall on either PC.[Should not block ports here]
Samba config file Ok [use testparm command for this]
Samba running in the system [Use smbclient -L localip to check the shares]
Create a share in WinPc and see if u are able to access from linux.
All goes well then u zero down to fixing the smb.conf file issue.

Cheers
Zulfi
