Intra-Lan messaging in mixed domain

Greetings,

I have a Samba "Domain Controller" sitting on a predominately Windows network. Is there any way that I can make domain messages such as "X service will be unavailable" from my Linux box and have everyone in the domain get that?

Thanks!

Chris

Have you tried this?

kpopper

I have not used it and may not broadcast the whole network.. Looks like it may be worth checking out though.

My only problem is that it uses Windows Messenger service, it appears. All the Windows machines in the domain have that particular service disabled, due to the whole slew of crap popups that you got from it. Or am I reading the description wrong? Is there still a problem with the Windows Messenger service, seeing how I've not touched it since XP came out.

Windows Messenger service is designed to do exactly what you are asking for. That said, you may try it on a box or 2 for testing. Newer versions of IE do a better job of blocking these popups (from the internet). You could make them change browsers....

Beyond that you could set up your own jabber server. There are jabber clients for both linux and windows-- servers for linux.
