gnome over X?

If I'm not mistaken when the Desktop environment (gnome) is installed it assumes that the server has a head and launches the Desktop on that display.

However I have a headless server and want my Desktop over X.

I have managed to point xeyes to my xserver on the mac but I can't get the gnome ide (root) on my xserver.

This appears to be the server when at init 5
Code:
root 5286 0.3 0.0 134020 2172 ? Ssl 11:53 0:00 /usr/sbin/gdm-binary -nodaemon
root 5306 0.0 0.0 158192 2260 ? Sl 11:53 0:00 /usr/libexec/gdm-simple-slave --display-id /org/gnome/DisplayManager/Display1
root 5309 101 0.0 110040 4488 ? Rs 11:53 0:06 /usr/bin/Xorg :0 -br -verbose -audit 4 -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-M5jOf6/database -nolisten tcp vt1
So how to I tell the server to when it boots it should attempt to display on DISPLAY=0.0.0.0:10.0

I think you need to understand how X really works. X itself is a client-server app. The server is running where DISPLAY is specified, the client is running where the graphic card/monitor/display is located.
Usually the two pieces are running on the same host.
If you want to put display onto another host you need to look for greeter and xdmcp (see for example: http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/GDM_XDMCP.html)

I think I understand the client server model. However I have two X-'Servers' and I want the client (In this case the OS's Desktop and all applications it launches to point to a different x-server.

Simply setting the DISPLAY to the server isn't helpful as going from init 3 to init 5 doesn't seem respect the environment variable.

I don't think I need an X-Server on my RHEL box. I will look at the XDMCP tutorial.

I found a whole bunch of gdm utilities but none have helped at the moment.
Thanks for the pointer.
