FTP through the web browser


This site doesn't use any actual FTP, right? https://ftp.gimp.org/gimp

That is correct. That site does not respond to FTP, the host name is probably just left over from decades past. It is 2023 already and HTTP and even HTTPS are much better for anonymous downloads.
