Fedora interface confusion

So I have a box that has 2 ethernet connections, but I am only using one.

When I do an ifconfig -a I get:

Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 16:E6:A0:6C:00:00
          UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
          Interrupt:22 Base address:0x4000

eth1_rename Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:20:ED:83:CD:FE
          inet addr:192.168.1.50 Bcast:192.168.1.255
          Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::220:edff:fe83:cdfe/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:4572045 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:216709 errors:37 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:37
          collisions:87 txqueuelen:100
          RX bytes:304357555 (290.2 MiB) TX bytes:27167156 (25.9 MiB)
eth1_rename (question 1, no idea why its called this)
is the one that is connected. If I try to restart the network service or anything like that I get this error

Code:
/etc/init.d/network restart
Shutting down interface eth0: Device eth0 has MAC address 16:E6:A0:6C:00:00, instead of configured address 00:20:ED:83:CD:FE. Ignoring.
[FAILED]
Shutting down loopback interface: [ OK ]
Disabling IPv4 packet forwarding: net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0
[ OK ]
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0: Device eth0 has different MAC address than expected, ignoring.
[FAILED]
So it looks like somehow/reason eth0 is taking the mac that is currently in use on eth1_rename and I can't restart the network service.

Then when I look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/

there are two configs, one for ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-eth1, all the configs look like they are in the eth0 script, and nothing in the eth1 script, but there is no script for the actual name of the port which is currently eth1_rename.

Man I'm confused.

You're xconfused? So is the box.

eth0 has the interrupt, but eth1 is enabled. Pull eth1, and sort eth0. Then maybe you can get going with eth1 as well.

eth1 is the interface actually plugged in, eth0 has no cable in it at all.

Are you able to switch the cable? whichever one you pull, you will have removed eth1, if you disable the config for eth1. Comment out those config lines with mac addresses - I think you have them swapped

I'm not sure I understand.

I am physically using eth1, thats the one that is currently plugged in and active.

You're using one nic. Pull the other one.
Unless you set it up very firmly, the kernel will call the remaining nic eth0 on next boot.
configure that. May I suggest you comment out that mac recognition stuff temporarily until it comes up.
Get them talking with no security to confuse things. Then add the security, one step at a time. If things fall over, you'll know exactly where the problem is.
