Your OS is extreme legacy. You are likely to have this sort of problem.
To access shared directories, fedora needs a samba client. You need to mount the shares.
In later releases, this is handled automatically.

Fedora Core 4 is a very old version (Fedora 9 is scheduled for release later this month) and rather than try to adjust a system that is no longer supported, Simon is suggesting that you download a more current version (Version 8 for example) and install that. Many of the issues you are finding with version 4 will then disappear without any further work.

You have yet to show that you have tried the guidance that you have received.

Have you installed a samba client?
Have you attempted to mount the shares?
Have you updated your distro?

These three things I have suggested to you. (See post #2)
For further guidance, you need to be more specific.

Is this related to your other thread?

SMB4k is probably exactly what you want and need. It'll let you browse windoze shares and mount them. Go to
http://www.fedorafaq.org/fc4/
Set up your repositories with the guidance of that FAQ. Then grab yum extender, Kyum or GnomeYum and search for SMB4k and related utilities.

FC4 was the worst FC release in my opinion. I tried it for two months and went back to FC3 until FC5 came out. As others have suggested I would move onward to at least FC6 which is still supported. FC8 is out and stable though I haven't tried it yet. Have FC6 and 7 machines working just fine so no reason to upgrade yet. With FC4 you have I feel strong reason as others have suggested to upgrade. FC6 takes no more hardware resources than FC4 did. I have not tried FC7 on an older machine yet so I'm not sure about hardware resources, but if that's an issue for you use FC6, you'll be much happier with it. Very good solid release, few bugs and still well supported.

Are the fc4 repos still active?
