Fallback network configuration (fedora 6)

I dont know if this has been asked, but is it possible with fedora 6 to create a 'fallback' network configuration like in windows which gives the option of APIPA or a static ip if a dhcp server cant be reached. The reasonn i ask is because i have a lapotp that moves from a DHCP network at work to a Static network at home, and i would like not having to manually reconfigure the LAN card every time i move the laptop if possible.

Actually I'd also be interested in an elegent way to achieve this. All I can think is write some sort of script to *check* if DHCP configuration has succeeded -> if not, configure the network via some pre-defined static information.
