eth1 failed

ok, don't exactly know what my eth1 is. how do i find out? i know i have an ethernet car for my dsl modem but that is eth0 and works. i also have 1394 port on the front of my comp but i dont' use it. so anyway the prob is that when i boot up linux it sits fro awhile and then says eth1 failed before finally finishing the boot. how do i setup my eth 1 or atleast disable it? using madrake 8.2 on a p4 thanx

You probably do not have an eth1 device on your computer but you have one defined. When the system boots it tries to setup an non-existant ethernet port and fails.

I do not know the Mandrake distro but in RH there is a configuration utility in KDE called Network Configurator in the System menu. Have a look here and see if there is any reference to eth1. If there is remove it.

Also have a look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and see if there are any files with eth1 in their names like ifcfg-eth1. If so you can try to remove these too.

Hope this helps

Paul
