hello, new to linux i managed to dual boot xp and mandrake linux 10.1. after installing linux i noticed that i wasnt getting a internet connection. thinking it was just the settings i looked thru the forums and made sure my resolv.conf was setup rite and also my eth1 file was setup rite. i coped the dns settings etc from another machine that connects fine. After that didnt work i rebooted and notice that during startup in verbose mode when its doing its checks the "Bringing up eth1 failed" which is my gigabit lan onboard. i know it works b/c its still working under xp. Any ideas on what i can do to get this to turn on during boot thats n00b friendly?
my motherboard has 2 onboard lans
the gigabit and the nvidia
i have disabled the nvidia in the bios
ok my other onboard lan is eth0, when i installed mandrake i had both on by default so mandrake set the nvidia lan as eth0 and the gigabit as eth1. i disabled the gigabit (eth1) and enabled the nvidia (eth0) and it still fails to load at boot. 1 other weird thing is when i remove say the gigabit connection and then go back to add a new connection, it always gives me the option of adding the gigabit adapter as eth1, even though its removed and no adapters are in the list.
putting it to static and rebooted the eth1 no longer failed
but i didnt have a connection since my router is set to dhcp
which i really dont want on static.
im guessing i need to update some dchp files on here?
