eth0 detected, no interenet on knoppix live dvd but works on ubuntu
Ok, basically I've used the knoppix live dvd, i managed to get the internet working through eth0 once, but not again after this occasion
i first tried ubuntu live dvd to choose my preference (i prefer knoppix), as my ethernet modem uses DHCP, ubuntu and windows pick this up and the internet works without setting anything up, etc.
however on knoppix, i have encountered numerous "freezes" where i have to switch everything off and back on (including my ethernet modem) otherwise i cannot access the net on windows or ubuntu
i've tried netcardconfig, network-admin but nothing works, i realised that on network-admin my eth0 shows and when i click properties, it is marked as enabled and the drop down option shows "DHCP", when I click ok, I see the main network-admin screen and when I click "Activate" for eth0, i get an error about incorrect settings, cannot proceed, etc.
sometimes when i run netcardconfig it tries to autodetect dhcp but it fails, as soon as it says "fail" the ethernet modem "ethernet cable" light goes on, if i do the search again it will come up "fail" then the light goes off, if i do it again it goes back on, and so on and on
i went back into windows to get some ip settings
gateway 192.168.1.254
network adaptor 192.168.1.64
dns 192.168.1.254
etc. etc.
put all the details back into knoppix netcardconfig manually and in network-admin, it says "failed" again,
however this time i tried running network-admin using root command prompt, when i clicked activate on the static ip connection (not dhcp), and clicked "apply/ok" to close the network-admin, the command prompt flashes an error "network-admin:4089 CRITICAL .." and some other mumbo jumbo, as if it couldn't save a setting, or something like that,
i don't know if this has anything to do with the ramdisk, i tried bootign knoppix with toram code as well, but to no avail
can anyone assist?
