domain name and internet


Hey i have a domain and i want to use it for example as a host for IRC and for my webpage,ftp...
Can someone help me tellling me what do i need or direct me to a HOWTO...

OS: slackware 10

The first thing to do is get the domain name to point to your ip address. Most dns providers will give you a web interface to do it. You'll need to check with them.

Then you just need to install the services that you want to run - ie dancer-ircd, apache and vsftpd. Also make sure that you have opened up the required ports for each service.l

so basically after i have all the services going all i have to do is point the dns to my machine ?

and how can i use it as host when im ircing as user not as server

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you just looking for an irc client? Take a look at irssi or epic.
