Unhappy DHCP / eth0 / Mandrake

I'm on a network which uses DHCP for IP address configuration.

I was using Mandrake Linux and everything was working fine until one fine day while startup the process halted at "Bringing up device eth0" and after a few minutes displayed "IP information could not be determined".

I tried to start the network service later (after startup) but got the same error. I checked the settings and everything seems O.K. (I did not change any of the settings since the time I installed Mandrake)

Any suggestions to get my computer on the network again?

Thanks,
Rabin

HI,

Try the command:

# pump

It will search for a DHCP server for you.

Thanks for the information; but it turned out to be a problem with some ethernet cards that a warm boot from Windows or a startup from "Hibernation" does not start up the card from standby.

To anyone who is interested, here is a page on that topic: http://www.panix.com/~dfoster/prog/linux/becker.txt .
