Red face Cannot bring up eth0 using DHCP

I am having problems using Mandrake 8.0 with my Roadrunner cable modem. My understanding is that RR uses dhcp. I selected DHCP during the
Mandrake installation, but eth0 cannot be brought up during bootup. The ifconfig command lists only lo information. I have played around with both the dhcpcd command and the pump command. Dhcpcd completes without any messages, but ifconfig still doesn't show eth0. Pump (both with no arguments and with -i eth0) gives a failure message, and ifconfig still doesn't show eth0.

I believe the network card to be installed correctly, here is the section from dmesg:

eth0: Lite-On 82c168 PNIC rev 32 at 0xdc00, 02:00:07:E3:8E:8B, IRQ 10.
eth0: MII transceiver #1 config 3000 status 7829 advertising 01e1.

The drivers for this Ethernet 10baseT card are the latest available. It's probably worth mentioning that my machine is connected to a LAN by a hub, and the hub is directly connected through the internet. I am dual booting, and Windows has no problem using DHCP to get an IP from Road Runner. Any ideas?

Your help is appreciated
-John

You may need to send a 'hostname' to your ISP during the DHCP negotiation. Did they give you a client id for your windows setup? You can send it with a command like this
Code:
dhcpcd -d -h myclientid
the '-d' tells dhcpcd to write status messages to syslog and the '-h myclientid' will send "myclientid" as the hostname.
