DHCLIENT Stops working after upgrade kernel from 2.4.20 to 2.4.22 in Slackware

Hi.
I installed a new computer with Slackware 9.0 which comes with Kernel 2.4.20. This computer is a PIII 800 with a 815 Chipset and 2 realtek 8139 Nics.
When i configured the eth0 in rc.inet1 as dhcp client it worked fine. But after a 2.4.22 kernel upgrade (modules, ide, headers & sources packages upgraded, including all the dependences, gcc and others) any of both cards gets IP, the service run, but it just claims to not find the dhcp server service...

I download the dhcpcd source from slackware.com and recompile the package without results, I recompile the kernel & modules without result.

Any help will be welcome

Thanks

One possibility is that what used to be eth0 is now eth1 and vice-versa. Check it out with ifconfig -a

I'm having similar problems with a realtek 8139 and a DFE-530TX in a box running the 2.4.22 kernel (installed through Gentoo). From what tests I've run, it looks like both cards can receive packets just fine, but never send anything. According to my sysadmin, those cards have never sent any packets requestion an IP to the DHCP server. I've tried setting up mini-networks to test this out, and it seems to hold true. So, why would a 'working' NIC receive but not send?

Talking I found a solution

I found this solution:
1.- Uninstall the dhcp package
2.- Download the source package from
http://www.isc.org/products/DHCP/

3.- Compile this sources, and install.

The dhcpd and client works perfectly.

hmm, when u upgraded and ran 'dhclient', was the error u got something like - "CONFIG_FILTER not set" or something of the sort?
if so, you have to enable it under "Networking Options" during "make xxxconfig" - it is disabled otherwise. and it will work fine without having to download or build anything from src.

the option you have to enable is "Socket Filtering" - it is always disabled, and you have to select it to set "CONFIG_FILTER"
