dhclient problem

I'm running Fedora, and having problems configuring an ethernet interface. I have a router set up to use DHCP. With the system up, I run the dhclient, which gives me the following output -

/sbin/dhclient
Internet Software Consortium DHCP Client V3.0pl2
Copyright 1995-2001 Internet Software Consortium.
All rights reserved.

/sbin/dhclient-script: configuration for eth0 not found.
Listening on LPF/eth0/xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Sending on LPF/eth0/xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Sending on Socket/fallback
DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 5
DHCPOFFER from 192.168.0.1
DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67
DHCPACK from 192.168.0.1
/sbin/dhclient-script: configuration for eth0 not found.
DHCPDECLINE on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67
DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 7
DHCPOFFER from 192.168.0.1
DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67
DHCPACK from 192.168.0.1
etc.......

my /etc/dhclient.conf file contains this -

interface "eth0" {
send dhcp-client-identifier 1:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx;
send dhcp-lease-time 86400;
}

Problem is my network interface never gets an IP address assigned to it. If I run ifconfig there's no IP address.

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers.
Andrew.

What does your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 look like?

It doesn't exist.
I can configure the interface manually and everything is fine, but I'd like to get DHCP working.

Well that file could also be under /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles, but dhclient can't find it either, so it probably isn't being created.

You can determine your module name and add an alias into /etc/modules.conf
code:
alias eth0 [foomodule]
code.

or you could try to create the ifcfg-eth0 file manually kinda like this:
code:
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
ONBOOT=yes
code.

dhclient should be run by ifup/ifdown, so you shouldn't have to call it directly.

What card are you using?

I looked at the network start up script and it seemed like a lot of dynamic stuff was configured if the env variable DYNCONFIG was set. However putting this in ifcfg-eth0 caused the machine to hang during the boot process. I'll try your suggestion though.
My network card is a Belkin F5D5000.

I'm kinda almost sure that 8139too will run that card, what does it say in
/etc/modules.conf for eth0?

I have only seen DHCPDECLINEs when there is a IP conflict on the network (two computers with the same IP address). Is there another computer that has a static IP set?

thanks Rhell, your suggested ifcfg-eth0 worked great. Actually all this stuff is on the Redhat web site, but thanks for the help anyway.

Cheers.
Andrew.
