2.6.11 dhclient problem on debian

I compiled 2.6.11 kernel but my network configuration stopped working.. dhclient is unable to obtain IP address from DHCP server. with 2.6.10 this works fine
I used the same kernel config to compile 2.6.11 as I did for 2.6.10
anybody else experiencing this - or knowing how to fix this?
thanks
m.

Make sure you're querying the correct interface. When I recompiled my kernel one time, it switched my eth0 and eth1 interfaces on me. Never did figure out why.

Make sure you're using the latest version of dhclient.

I am using debian unstable and dist-upgrading almost every day so it should be the latest version

I'm not really familiar with Debian and its dist-upgrade. I build all pakages from source so I know exactly what I'm installing and where its going. I did have trouble with my dhclient when I upgraded my kernel last year. I had to upgrade dhclient to V3.0. Can you check your version? Do you have any other verbose information?

One more thing. You may have to add a route on your host.
route add -host 255.255.255.255 dev eth0

This is a workaround for broadcast address remapping that happens in some Linux builds.

You can also try this:
echo 1 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_bootp_agent
Which enables some kernels to allow dhcp.

adding the route did not help
the file ip_bootp_agent is not in my /proc/sys/net/ipv4 directory and I cannot create one..

Today I upgraded my dhclient from 2.0 to 3.0.1-2 but it did not help.
With 2.6.10 it works, with 2.6.11 it does not.

I can provide more information, if you tell me what exactly you need.
