I have installed RH9 on a Dell Cpi laptop
I'm trying to get a wireless connection to my home network using WEP with a netgear ma401. I think i am configuring everything correctly in redhat-config-network, but when I try to activate the device, I get "Determining IP information for eth0 . . . failed"
If anybody can suggest what the problem (and soultion) might be I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
Can you disable wep on the router and network card and try to see if it works without wep? Then once you know that'll work re-enable wep on both. Sometimes the keys have to be entered in HEX or ASCII so make sure you're entering the right one.
Does this laptop have another network card attached (or integrated networking) that maybe it's trying to get an IP on that card instead?
Thanks for the reply, but I got it working. I was using the gateway and DNS settings from my router, not for my router (if that makes sense).
Anyway it works now
I installed RH9 and kernel 2.4.22. I am trying to configure linux machine to connect to MH-510 wireless USB adpater. I intalled all packages and wlan service is getting started. But there is a problem in assigning the ip address.
During startup I get the following error
Bringing up interface wlan0: Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Function not implemented.
Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :
SET failed on devide wlan0 ; Function not implemented.
Determining IP information for wlan0... failed. [FAILED]
I made sure that the pcmcia_usb configs are good by running the following commands
[root@localhost root]# /etc/init.d/wlan start [ OK ]
hi kolli-
It looks like ou need to set the name of your network correctly in redhat-configure-network. It is under Wireless Settings. I have the mode set to auto and I could then specify the name of my network (I left mine as the default, which was 2WIRE324). This seems to make sense because if the device is starting, but it is not looking for the right network, it can't grab an ip (if you're using dhcp) or set it (if you're static).
This is a guess.
Good luck!
