Unhappy Determining IP info for eth0 failed, PLS HELP

Please help me. I have searched this site and the Web and found a few posts about this problem, but I still can't fixed it. Basically, when my machine boots, I get the error "Determining IP information for eth0 failed". I get the same error when I try to activate eth0 from the Network Device Control interface after booting. My DSL is able to connect to the Web.

My system info:

Dual boot Win XP/Red Hat Linux 9
Ethernet card: RealTek RTL-8139

lsmod
Module Size Used by Not tainted
sr_mod 18136 0 (autoclean)
parport_pc 19076 1 (autoclean)
lp 8996 0 (autoclean)
parport 37056 1 (autoclean) [parport_pc lp]
autofs 13268 0 (autoclean) (unused)
ppp_synctty 7904 0 (unused)
ppp_async 9440 1
ppp_generic 24444 3 [ppp_synctty ppp_async]
slhc 6740 0 [ppp_generic]
8139too 18088 1

ping -cl localhost
ping: bad number of packets to transmit.

Let me know if you need additional info.
