Control the network bandwidth using redhat 6


Hi All,

I am Nandagopal. I need some clarification on control the network bandwith using redhat OS.
I am using windows 7 operating . inside that i installed vmware and now i am running two redhat 6 OS in that VM. i need to control the network bandwith of one redhat OS machine from another redhat machine. i hope this make sense for yours.
Please help me if it is possible to control the network bandwith of one machine from another machine. is there any RPM or services need to install and configure for this process.

You want to start by reading http://www.lartc.org/lartc.html, also search for the "wonder shaper" script. The packages you need are iptables and iproute (and maybe iperf / jperf for testing).

tc - traffic shaper

Some of the newer kernels/distros have tc which is a nice way to control traffic bandwidth for an interface.
