configuring IP address fails

I have an ARM based linux machine with kernel 2.6.10 .
On reset it automatically gets the IP address 192.168.1.2 . I want it to wake up with address 192.168.35.133 .
In /etc/network/interfaces was only an interface for loopback:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

I have added:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.35.133
netmask 255.255.255.0

But on next reset the IP was still 192.168.1.2
Something did not work.
What did I do wrong?

@ arielsegal

i m not familiar with this distor
Is there networkmanager server available? If yes then stop network manager service and then restart network service

@lewisforlife

same thing apply on your debina linux

/etc/init.d/network-manager stop

change interface file and then restart networking service
/etc/init.d/networking restart

HTH

Given that this didn't contain configuration information for your NIC device, it probably exists elsewhere for your distro.
Have a look in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0
or /etc/sysconfig/networking/ifcfg-eth0.

I don't think you mentioned which distribution your host is based on.
Also try "man 5 ifcfg"
