Configuring a network interface from a RESCUE system

HI all,

my colocation provider changed the Gateway IP-Adress for my rack and now I have to configure the new network settings from the rescue system (LAN boot into RAM).

I can mount and chroot to the "main system" from the rescue system.

But how do I change the network settings?
At the moment I am browing through /etc and am looking for a config file, where I can configure the settings manually, since the "ifconfig" just configures the NIC from the rescue system ...

My Distribution is CentOS 5.2

Any help is greatly appreciated!
