Cannot Ping


Hello, I have a problem with my Linux, and 2 windows machines.

All machines have static IP addresses, and the 2 winblows machines can ping eachother, but the Linux machine cannot ping them, nor can windows ping the Linux box.

When I ping with the Linux box, I can ping 127.0.0.1 just fine, and the NIC Card's IP address (192.168.1.1), but when I ping 192.168.1.2, it says "Destination Host Unreachable"

I check the routing tables, and I get:

255.255.255.255 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0
127.0.0.1 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0

I've tried adding default gw of 192.168.1.1 and no luck, I've tried adding

route add 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.1.1

no luck

What does the output of the route command look like. I've got a similar setup, and mine goes like this:

192.168.0.0     *               255.255.255.0   U     0      0        0 eth0

Also- do you have any sort of firewalling going on that might be interferring?

Hmm

I got it fixed. It was a problem with my 3c905 card.

I put in a PCI card and it works just fine now. I can ping, but I have a new problem now :P

For some reason, when I try to NAT the winblows machines, and ping an IP address, it gives Request TImed Out.

Forward_ipv4=YES

Also when I try to type:

ipchains -A forward -s 192.186.1.0/24 -j MASQ, it says ipchains: Protocol not available
When I try to ipchains a TCP, it says:
ipchains: Protocol not available

Also when I ifup eth0, it says

RTNETLINK answers: File exists
SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable

My routing table is:

Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
12.21.155.195 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 ppp0
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
127.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo
0.0.0.0 12.21.155.195 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 ppp0
Am I going the right way to NAT these machines? or should I go a completely different way..

actually we have the same problem since we both run redhat 7.2. it has new kernel that's why its only iptables which can run on it. i'm an idiot on iptables, am not sure how to convert my existing rules in ipchains to iptables. anybody here care to help? its just a short file...
