ubuntu 22.10
arris router/modem
Wired, not wireless
I used to be able to login to my router on my old system, (Ubuntu 18.04)
But with this new system I cannot even get to the routers login screen.
I am using Firefox browser, yes it is newest version.
I have tried all the IP addressed I could find online for this brand and model, some time out and some do nothing.
I refreshed firefox, stopped all extensions, cleared cache and cookies, ETC... and reinstalled with the same result.
I tried another browser and still cannot get to the login screen.
I reset the router using the button on the back by holding it in for several minutes, several times and unplugged it with no change.
Internet works fine (wired) and everthing I just want to access it to possibly setup a wireless network.
This is not a remote system or anything like that just a single desktop.
Are there some settings in Ubuntu that might need changed or altered to access the router?
Thanks.
What is the model number of your router?
I assume you are using DHCP so typically the gateway address can be found by looking at the output of the ip command Which should show something like.
Quote:
ip r
default via 192.168.0.1 dev enp0s3 ...
And what is displayed for your system as 192.168.0.1 is your router's LAN address.

The router is an arris TM1602
and I get this with ip r :
default via 192.168.1.1 dev eno1 proto dhcp src 192.168.1.9 metric 100
I dont know if this matters but when i look at the network settings in Ubuntu the mac address and all the other fields are blank.
It is set to automatic DHCP maybe that is why?
So your computer is connected directly to the MODEM?
Usually the only way to login to a MODEM is disconnect the cable and it defaults to something like 192.168.100.1 but I don't know the password and there really are not any user settings.

No, I totally forgot, Yes the arris is probably just a modem, The arris is connected to a netgear wireless wifi router that has 2 or 3 hardwired jacks on the back that I am
using, But I used to login to the arris with an ip address that is is something like 192.168.1.1 and then I would get an arris login screen then I would put in admin as user and
password for the password, then I could access it to setup the wifi info and look at other settings.
I am going to hookup the old system and see if that will get to the arris login page.
